CALL FOR ENTRIES (NEW MEDIA) <<< Deadline for Submissions: January 28, 2013 Find the simple online entry process here: http://www.manifestgallery.org/coded CODE D. (new media) An International Competitive Exhibit of Works of New Media All artists included in the project receive a complimentary copy of the full-color companion exhibit catalog. Art and Science are intertwined throughout history. New media in art arise from a variety of places– sometimes the artist's lab, sometimes the scientist's and engineer's, and other times from someplace completely unexpected. Inevitably this is driven by curiosity, a need for new means of expressing complex ideas, and often enough the simple desire to create something novel. As part of its ongoing effort to survey various approaches to art making, expression, and creative discovery Manifest offers CODE D. as an invitation to artists to share works of New Media. We have no predetermined expectations for what constitutes 'new' media. While the title of the project plays off the concept of the digital, that is by no means the defining parameter for works to be considered. Works submitted to this peer-juried exhibit may be of any media, style, or genre, and may represent New Media in any number of widely interpreted ways. Manifest is eager to present and document a broadly compelling exhibition, a collection of works of New Media revealing the excitement, mystery, and intellect behind the leading edge of creativity in the world today. Eligibility: CODE D. is open to everyone. Professionals as well as students are encouraged to enter. The only limitation is that entries must represent original works of art. Media: Manifest is taking a wide view of what constitutes New Media. Our project stems from our question of 'what is New Media art?' as opposed to a statement that 'this is new media art.' Some examples of things we already consider to fit within the parameters of this project are: digital photography/video, automated or self-generating art, electronic interactive 2d or 3d art, video paintings, works that combine new media with old media, etc. The wikipedia entry for New Media Art provides a basis for some understanding, but also does not limit the potential for viable work for this project.
