“These are my words, essay 1”

Audra’s statement:

I am very comfortable in solitude and silence and have always been drawn to the more unfrequented, quiet places. My photographs are captured during the solitary moments at diverse set of places. Isolation can happen anywhere, on the prairies, in a cemetery or even a city street. During my post processing the same vocabulary usually emerges – desolate, quiet, dark, abandoned, ghosts, lonely.

I grew up in a household that smelled of turpentine, where drawing and painting were a regular part of life. In the late 80’s my photography started as a way to share travel experiences with friends and quickly evolved into my chosen medium for creative expression. From the very beginning my photography centered on the desolate and remains that way in a sense today. For the most part I am a self-trained photographer and have recently switched focus to black and white, which mirrors my love of drawing with HB Graphite pencils and charcoal earlier in life. I’ve traveled and lived all over North America and have finally settled in Hamilton, Ohio not far from where I grew up, where I own a web design business. My work has been included in various juried group shows
